A Tree Grows In Brooklyn

Ladies and gentlemen, I have finally finished a really great book. Taking a look at the receipt/book mark it was originally purchased August 3, 2008. The book was not even that long, it was 493 pages. If you look at question number 9 in the 25 random things about myself you will see why it has taken me so long to reach the end! I really enjoyed this book. It was not the most exciting kind of book that has you on the edge of your ottoman, but I think it gives a pretty good look at New York at the turn of the twentieth century. The book follows a girl growing up in lower class Brooklyn and shows the types of struggles and sufferings those types of families experienced.

On one of my family's many New York vacations, we went on a tour of a typical flat in which an immigrant family would live in during the early 1900s. At the time I was really bummed that my parents were taking me on tourist after tourist attraction, but I am grateful for the experience because it gave me a deeper view of what life was actually like. It also gave me a better mental image of the living situation of the Nolan family in A Tree Grows In Brooklyn.

If this sounds like something you're into, especially if you love stories that take place in the past, I totally recommend this book!
